Ale's story

Alexandra is a sweet little girl, only 6 years old, from Dorohoi, Romania. Emotions ran high for her last fall as she attended the first day of school, buzzing with the anticipation of making new friends, getting to know her new teacher, and having many beautiful dreams like any other first grader...
A few short weeks into the new school year, her hopes began to dwindle...Her dreams shattered while her parents were left numb and helpless upon being informed of their daughter's terrifying diagnosis: ACUTE MYELOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA...The news stroke fear in the hearts of all the loved ones, leaving them stunned and aggrieved.
The only eyes that seem to still be smiling are Alexandra's... Although she is not aware of it, we all know that beyond her sweet smile, a ruthless  disease is about to unravel. She will soon be seized by a cruel suffering that will wipe the innocence off her beautiful and serene face…
Alexandra is currently admitted to the Emergency Children's Hospital “Sf. Maria” of Iasi, the pediatric hematology/oncology department and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment. The doctors recommend a bone marrow transplant, a procedure that is way outside her parents' financial means. The surgery could be performed abroad as per her doctor's recommendation. Nevertheless, the cost is enormous...Unfortunately, time waits for no one...and the amount that is needed (approx. 150,000 euros) is a huge amount to be raised in such a short time (2 months)…

We are a small group of people who have been touched by Alexandra’s story (just please take the time to watch the video and you’ll know what we mean). We made the decision to advocate her cause as we are strong believers in the notion that a silver lining makes even the darkest cloud less dark. We are either mothers who can empathize with the parents’ ordeal or people who can simply imagine the disruptions caused by even less life-altering events…
Please take a few minutes to reflect on this. How many times have you heard the phrase: “What’s the big rush, we’re not saving lives here..!” Well, in this case we could be. And together, we will!
We make an appeal to all the big hearts out there to join our cause. You can help in any way you can: by donating a few dollars, by sharing Alexandra’s story through social media or by helping us research potential treatment avenues. Unfortunately, the transplant cannot be performed in Romania, so any information you may have on the possibility of her receiving treatment in the E.U or the U.S could mean saving Alexandra’s life. And what can be more important than that?
